Albert Donald "Don" Sutton

September 26, 1933 — July 14, 2025

Albert Donald "Don" Sutton passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of July 14, 2025, surrounded by his family.

Don was born on September 26, 1933, in Waco, Texas.

He had enough stories and experiences to fill a dozen books. Throughout his 91 years, he lived lives that most could only dream of. A true nomad in his early years, Don hitchhiked from Waco to California, playing music and traveling the United States. He was then drafted and served in the Korean War. Upon his return in 1953, he survived the Waco Tornado, taking shelter in downtown Waco.

In incredibly talented guitar player, he was often playing music at various bars in Waco throughout the 50s. He then settled down with his spitfire of a wife, Janie, and raised their three children. He worked as a barber in Mexia and Bellmead while also running Sutton's Grocery in Bellmead. He was also a member of the Prairie Hill Masonic Lodge for over fifty years.

In his later years, you could often find him at Whataburger in the mornings and walking around Walmart during the day. Other than his ability to make an entire room laugh, a trademark of his life was his profound love of animals, caring for any animal he found.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jane Sutton, siblings Eugene Sutton and Joyce Gilmer, parents James Lee Troy Sutton and Mary Lee Sutton, and his best friend, Henry.

He is survived by his siblings, Gary Sutton and Mary Lois Pearce (Jim Pearce), children, Albert Donald Sutton II, Donna Clark, David Sutton and wife, Melissa, Teri Nix, and Jerry Nix, grandchildren, Kasey Sutton (Ariel Sutton), Mandi Hansen (Dakota Hansen), Michael Clark (Allaire Clark), David Sutton (Katie Sutton), Abby Hilliard (Justin Hilliard), Ashlyn Sutton (Aidan Ahern), and Annie Sutton, ten great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and several friends.

Pallbearers are Justin Hilliard, Aidan Ahern, Michael Clark, Matthew Sutton, Mike Reeves, Benny Doss, and honorary pallbearer, Coy Emert.
