In Loving Memory of Debbie Windham Franklin

 March 10, 1956 – October 4, 2026

Debbie Windham Franklin, born March 10, 1956, passed away on October 4, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of laughter, love, unforgettable memories, and probably a few stories that aren't appropriate to tell in church.

Debbie was truly one of a kind. She had a big heart, a quick wit, a colorful vocabulary, and absolutely no filter. She said what she thought, usually exactly when she thought it, and whether you were ready to hear it or not. Her sense of humor could be wildly inappropriate, her language could make a sailor blush, and her ability to make people laugh was unmatched. If Debbie had something to say, you were going to hear it, and chances were, you'd be laughing about it later.

She spent much of her life working in bars, where her larger-than-life personality, quick comebacks, and ability to strike up a conversation with just about anyone made her a natural fit. She never met a stranger, and whether you needed a good laugh, a listening ear, or someone to tell you exactly what she thought, Debbie was your girl.

If there was one thing Debbie loved as much as making people laugh, it was animals. She had a heart of gold when it came to anything with four legs, especially those who needed a little extra love. Strays somehow always found their way to her, and she never turned them away. At one point, she was feeding approximately 30 cats. Some might have called that excessive. Debbie probably would have just called it Tuesday. Every animal she cared for was loved, fed, and spoiled rotten.

Although Debbie never had children of her own, her nieces and nephews were her babies. She loved them fiercely, treated them as her own, and undoubtedly taught them a few words their parents would have preferred they never learned. Her love for them was unconditional, and the memories they shared will be treasured forever.

Debbie wasn't one to sugarcoat things, put on airs, or pretend to be someone she wasn't. She was funny, outspoken, generous, and unapologetically herself. She loved hard, laughed often, and had a special way of leaving an impression on everyone she met. Life with Debbie was rarely dull, and the world will certainly be a little quieter without her.

Debbie was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Harold Wayne Windham and James David Windham; and her sister, Michell Windham.

She is survived by her sister-in-law, Joyce Windham; her beloved nieces and nephews; extended family; and longtime dear friends.

While her family and friends will miss her dearly, they find comfort in the laughter she brought into their lives, the love she gave so freely, and the countless memories that will keep her spirit alive. And if heaven has a stray cat problem, there's no need to worry. Debbie has probably already fed them all, named half of them, and told someone exactly what she thinks about the situation — with a few choice words thrown in for good measure.

Rest easy, Debbie. Heaven just got a little louder, a whole lot funnier, and every stray animal up there just found its new best friend.
