James W. Calvery

Mar 11, 1967 — Aug 14, 2026

James Walker Calvery, known to many as "Bull" or "Bigfoot," entered the house of the Lord on August 14, 2026. Though his size and presence could seem intimidating, those who truly knew him found a loyal friend, a hardworking man, and a skilled outdoorsman who was always willing to lend a hand or share his knowledge.

What James loved most was spending time with his family, making friends, and being outdoors. Put those things together, and he had his own little piece of Heaven on Earth. He faced life with grit and determination, and what he couldn't handle himself, he gave to God.

James was born on March 11, 1967, to John Walker Calvery and Joyce Jannette (Bolton) Calvery.

He is survived by his high school sweetheart and, later, wife of seven years, Sheila (Smith) Calvery of Gatesville; daughter Sadie Jones and husband Sean of Milford; son Trent Calvery of McGregor; bonus son and daughter, James "Jamie" Morgan and Jesse Morgan of Waco; and grandchildren Adrian and Nayeli.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Calvery and Raymond and Jannette Ludwig, and his brother, Dalton Calvery.

In accordance with James's wishes, he will be cremated, and there will be no official service. A celebration of life may be held in the near future, with information to follow if so.

The family is profoundly grateful for the phenomenal care and support provided by the excellent staff at Coryell Memorial Hospital and by his hospice staff. They went above and beyond in caring for James, supporting his family, and advocating for him throughout his battle with cancer.

In James's memory, please consider making a donation to the Coryell Memorial Hospital Foundation.
