Joyce Popham

It is with great sadness we share with you that Joyce (Casavecchia) Popham has passed away, leaving us on October 22, 2026.

A celebration of life will be held at the Bellmead Funeral Home (809 La Clede St, Waco, TX 76705) at 11 a.m. on October 31.

Joyce was born in Loup City, NE, on August 28, 1943, to Samuele Casavecchia and Agnes Casavecchia (Tyma). She spent her childhood years in Nebraska, Texas, and Missouri. She & her first husband moved back to Texas in the 1970’s where they raised their two children. She began a career in the medical field when the children were older and became a friend of many in the Waco area.

After her retirement in 2009 Joyce discovered a love of travel and animals. She enjoyed visiting many states, but her three favorites were Missouri, Colorado and Wyoming. When she wasn’t traveling she often volunteered for local animal shelters where she nurtured her fondness for dogs.

Joyce leaves behind two sisters Angie Casavecchia and her husband Steve Reed, (Joplin, MO) and Emily DeFranco (Lexington, KY) as well as three children, Jonna Parker and her husband Mike (Lamar, CO), her son Sean Huffman and his wife Shelby (Lorena, TX) and her daughter Marcy Huffman (Waco,TX) as well as seven grand children, eight great-grandchildren, and six nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her second husband, Steven Popham, her mother Agnes, her father Samuel, her sister Mary Ann Palu, her brother Samuel Casavecchia, and her former spouse and father of her children, George Huffman.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to a local animal shelter or the Alzheimer's Association .
