Lucille Emma Jander

July 20, 1931 — December 9, 2025

Lucille was a kind and loving person, filled with joy in and of the Lord, always ready to give and receive a hug, a model of strength and blessed assurance. She loved her husband Harold, who went to be with the Lord several years before her. She longed to be in heaven, and knowing that she is there now worshipping her Savior face to face brings great joy to her family and friends. She loved to sing and at random times would break out in a song of praise to the Lord, a scripture quotation, the Lord's Prayer, or just a verbal prayer, sometimes in the middle of a conversation or a quiet moment. This was especially important to her and more frequent during her last days here. She knew the Lord heard.

She was a commercial seamstress in the early years of their marriage and sewed at home after that. When she and Harold took up line dancing and square dancing it was the perfect opportunity for her to sew dresses and petticoats, and she cranked out a BUNCH of ‘em! She also went weekly to her home church, St. Paul Lutheran, with the other ladies to sew blankets and quilts. Beautiful work!

She and Harold worked several years for Laborers for Christ and helped build churches literally all over the country. They would find the next project, pack the 5th wheel and off they went. They enjoyed it immensely and made lifelong friends along the way. Even planted and harvested potatoes at one site in Washington State! Countless lives continue to be blessed by their work.

She loved hats, scarfs, the color yellow, dragonflies, and flowers, oh the flowers. She had all kinds of flowers and vegetables, sometimes in the same garden. Petunias and pansies, bachelor buttons and amaryllis, salvia, turks cap, crape myrtle, the list is long. Canning and preserving was a big part of life on the Axtell farm and there were always pickles, green beans, black eyed peas, peaches, the works.

She had contagious mannerisms, like saying, "Girl, you just don't know..". When she agreed with you she would wiggle her finger at you and say “Right-Ohh”. At the end of a phone call she would say “Okayyyy??” which meant, “I’m done, I hope you’re done, I’m going to lunch!”.

She had hand written scriptures, encouraging words, and phrases tucked, pinned, taped, and clipped all over the house, in the car, in her wallet, in her world. When she would hear a scripture read to her she would often say, “Where is that?”, and write it down on the nearest piece of paper she could find.

She loved all of God’s creation but she especially loved birds. She would often talk about which ones she saw on her daily walks. She did love many things but she had a serious distaste for tomatoes, and was notorious for avoiding them.

She didn’t have a drinking problem but she did drink a lot – of water. She always had one, maybe two bottles with her at all times. Recently she literally said she wanted a case of them for Christmas!

She loved her husband, her two boys, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She prayed for them all, verbally, every night, by name. She and Harold were an example of faithfulness to each other and to the Lord.

As an answer to prayer, God took her home quickly, and without extended pain. She was sharp to the very end, recently asking questions about things she had only been told once.

So much more could be written about Lucille, and each person that knew her has their own story. She loved you all and she was greatly loved!
