Peggy Noreen Byrum

November 30, 1949 — December 1, 2025

Waco

Peggy Noreen Byrum, 76, passed peacefully into eternal rest on Monday, December 1, 2025, surrounded by family and her pastor. She left this world the same way she lived in it—loved, held, and unwavering in her faith. Peggy was born in Waller, Texas, to poor sharecroppers. Hard work shaped her early years, and by fourteen she struck out on her own, determined to build a life with grit, courage, and grace. That determination led her to the Aransas, Texas area, where she met the love of her life, James David Byrum. In true Peggy fashion, she proposed with humor and heart, telling him she’d marry him for a quarter—he only had a nickel, and she married him anyway. They married, divorced, married again, and ultimately shared over thirty years of life, laughter, and devotion. James preceded her in death on April 3, 2015. Peggy’s life was defined by love and by service. She raised her daughter Tammy Jean, and helped raise her stepchildren Melissa Byrum and David Byrum, as well as her niece Becky. She then devoted herself to guiding and raising her grandchildren—William, Brandi, and R.J.—and later poured the same love into her great-grandson Bradlee and her “bestest grandmaw” years with Gabbie, Charlie, and Draven. Her home was a place of safety, warmth, and second chances. She was the kindest of souls—selfless, steadfast, and ready to give of herself for anyone she loved. Peggy fought tooth and nail to do right by her family, always showing up, always holding on, always believing in the good she could still give. She was a devout Christian, a prayer warrior whose faith never wavered even in the darkest hours. Her hymns, her whispered prayers, and her quiet strength were the bedrock of her home. Peggy leaves behind a family shaped by her love, her endurance, and her example. In the spirit of her faith, we remember her with the words of the Apostle Paul: > “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” —2 Timothy 4:7 Peggy lived these words. And now she rests

Peggy is preceded in death by her husband, James Byrun; mother, Johnnie Pricket; father, William Lawler; and brother Billy Lawler.

Peggy is survived by her daughter, Tammy Studer & husband Ricky Studer; grandson, William Lewallen & wife Kara Green; grandson, RJ Reed; granddaughter, Brandi Meller & husband Sean Meller; and sister, Brenda Dickinson.
