Ruby was born December 10, 1923 in Groesbeck, Tx. She attended school in Ben Hur Tx. After the tragic death of her father Pink Capps in 1941, she moved to Waco from the family farm with her mother Kate Capps. Most of her working life was spent as a seamstress in various factories in Waco with most of the time spent at J M Woods Manufacturing. In January 1947, she purchased a home on Preston Street in East Waco. This home received extensive damage in the Waco tornado in 1953 with the front porch blown off as well as part of the roof. Fortunately, there were no injuries to the family that were in the home at the time the tornado struck.
In November 1949, she married the love of her life Marvin Garrett. They were married up until Marvin’s death in December 1998. Together they had three children, with their first child not surviving birth. Ruby was a devoted wife and mother. If there was a family member in need, Ruby was always there to help.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Kate Hudson Capps and father Pink Capps. Her sisters Mary Capps Stanfill, Inez Capps Keener and her brothers Oscar Capps, Nathan Capps and Harvey Capps. And her grandson Adam Garrett.
Survivors include her sons Ritchie Garrett and wife Deborah, Dennis Garrett and wife Janet. Her granddaughter, Kelli Garrett Roper and husband Chris. Her two great grand children Annabelle and Austin Roper.
